1.What type of race is it?

It’s very much based of Rogaining (something I think everyone should try at least one), except you are actively encouraged to use your GPS and any mode of transport.

The best thing about rogaining is the social aspect.  Everyone starts at the same time, and generally finishes at the same time, it is just the amount of ground that has been covered by teams that differs.  Rogaining can be held in city environments or in farmland and bush, and you get to visit parts of the country you never knew existed.  Controls are given different scores, so strategy plays a big part in collecting the most points versus shortest distance, as the winner is determined by the highest score.  It differs from orienteering in that you can visit them in any order, and is normally a team sport with groups of 2 to 5 competing.

So as an example each team will get a map and some instructions along with how many points you can earn at each location (this does not rely on finding any geocache).

2. What are the Rules for this Race?

Rules will be given out again at the briefing but as an outline:

All laws must be obeyed.

Have fun. This is not a game of speed or difficulty or winning.

Teams must remain together (any submissions where the team have split will result in points not being awarded).

A team that has a member under fourteen years of age shall also have a member eighteen years of age or over.

For a team to gain points for visiting a virtual checkpoint, all (but 1) members of a team shall be in a photo with the provide prop and team board with whatever is listed to be in that photo.

For a team to gain points for visiting a field puzzle checkpoint – hints will be provided on the sheet and answers are to be provided in writing along with a photo of at least 1 team member completing it.

If you arrive and a team is undertaking a field puzzle please give them space and wait your turn. I promise that they are easy to reach by foot in the time limit and worth the wait (a lot of time went into getting them set up).

3. Programme

At 8.00am maps will be available for teams to collect and start planning.

At 8.15am Natalie247 will brief the teams.

At 8.25am Team props will be handed out (note that the racers must have these to earn points.

Not a couple of the field puzzles are within Businesses so you need to time your stops (these will be listed on the handout).

Finish line is officially 6.00pm (for every minute late points will be deducted). You are allowed to finish earlier.

Anyone who cannot make it to the 8am briefing and still wish to partake, come find Natalie247 at the event and she can brief you. You can still get a good number of points even if you only start at Noon.
